Computers play host to all sorts of network services, an example would be a webserver that is hosting one or several websites. If a program on that same machine needs to access information that the web-service is providing it uses the "Loopback" IP address to find it. That IP address is 127.0.0.1 or "Home" … and there's no place like it!
